City Year works to build stronger communities, a stronger country, and a better world through service. Every small task at City Year is part of this ambitious mission. City Year brings together young adults from diverse backgrounds for a demanding year of full-time community service, leadership development, and civic engagement. To be considered for a position, you must submit your completed application, including application form, essays, and reference forms, to City Year by one of the four deadlines listed above. If positions are still available after May 31, City Year will consider applications received after that date on a rolling-admissions basis. Applications submitted later in the year are typically competing with a much larger pool of applicants. The sooner you apply, the better your chances of acceptance.

CAPAL will award three (3) scholarships to outstanding Asian Pacific American (APA) students committed to public service and community action. Awarded annually since 1992, CAPAL’s scholarships have enabled promising students with leadership potential to explore public service and learn how to influence public policy that affects our communities. CAPAL Scholars are awarded $2,000 scholarships to support their successful completion of an internship in Washington, DC, as well as their development of a Community Action Plan.

CAPAL is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-partisan, educational organization that was founded in 1989 by APA professionals in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Its mission is to promote Asian Pacific American interests and success in public sector careers, to provide information and education on policy issues affecting the APA community, and to serve the APA community at large.

The A. Patrick Charnon Scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate students who have been accepted to or who are currently enrolled in a four-year college or university. Students who value tolerance, compassion and respect for all people in their communities, and who have demonstrate their commitments to theses values by their actions will be considered for this award. In addition to an official transcript and three letters of recommendation, you must submit a typed 2-4 page essay on how community service experiences have shaped your life and how you will use your college education to build communities in a manner consistent with Pat Charnon's values of compassion, tolerance, generosity and respect.

The contest is open to all full-time students and anyone under 26 years old. There are no restrictions regarding school, citizenship, or country of residency. Full-time students and young people under 26 may enter the essay contest. To clarify, anyone 25 years old or younger when they submit their essay (regardless of if they are in high school, college, or not in school) is eligible. Also, anyone 26 years old or older who is a full-time student is eligible. A minimum of 600 words is required, and the essay should apply or show an understanding of economic freedom and it’s relationship to your country’s policies, constitutions and standards of living and display your own strong, creative, unique voice.
